Storytime
Andrew Tashjian is the founder and visionary of Battleship Real Estate. Over the course of his career, he has completed more than 400 deals comprising over $900 million dollars’ worth of land and building sales, and a vast array of leasing activity. From selling high-rise development sites and historic building conversions, to representing corporate tenants and major office landlords, Andrew has played a prominent role in the Southern California real estate game. And he’s only getting started.
But it wasn’t always peaches and cream. Andrew graduated from Brigham Young University in 2009 and then headed out west in search of skyscraper dreams. His timing was lovely. The subprime mortgage industry had just collapsed, Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy, and a 25-year-old Andrew sat twiddling his thumbs in front of a blank screen on his first day in the real estate business. Over the next fourteen years, what began as a job to cover rent and basic living expenses would become a career, a passion, and a catalyst for personal growth and success.
During tenures at CBRE, Inc. and Cushman & Wakefield, Andrew would go on to earn distinguished awards and routinely finish at the very top of the Downtown Los Angeles market, despite being at least a decade younger than nearly every other top producer. He had it all. The coifed hair. Suspenders. A Jonathan Club membership and a garage full of fast cars. Yet, following his own intuition amid the cacophony of the covid pandemic, he traded it all in for jeans and a drop-top Jeep and moved his young family to Orange County, California. And it was there, in 2022, that he would plant permanent roots and ultimately build Battleship Real Estate; demonstrating a personal commitment—as well as a professional one—to the vibrant, growing community to which he newly belonged and deeply endeavored to enhance.
Over the years, as a side-hustle to his brokerage business, Andrew has also amassed a sizable real estate portfolio investing in and redeveloping property, and in the process “unlocking” significant value for himself and his investors. Hospitality, retail, multi-family, office; you name it, he’s done it, and he’s done it successfully. It’s easy to talk the talk but very few people have the aptitude and requisite experience, as Andrew does, to put themselves in an owner’s shoes and really walk the walk. This is a key advantage.
A native of Southern California, Andrew has an exceptional understanding of the political and socioeconomic factors that affect value. He is a skilled communicator and uses his background in journalism, as well as extensive international involvement, to cut through, clarify and capture the essence of his client’s needs. Andrew is an Eagle Scout. He speaks fluent Haitian Creole. He spent two years serving others in the slums of the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. And the summers of his formative years were spent on Wall Street, as a canoe boy on the North Shore of O’ahu, as a credentialed reporter in Washington DC and just generally traveling the globe. But by far his proudest roles are of father and husband. Indeed, Andrew has built an impressive, influential career without missing a beat at home and that is truly his greatest achievement.
Mediocrity always associates with those who are not impatient with it.
